The Ultimate Declutter Guide | Preparing your Home for Spring

This year is flying by, and as we enter into March, it means it’s finally nearly Spring!

However, there is no need to panic, as we are here to help you declutter your home with our step-by-step declutter guide. Being organised in time for Spring will give you one less thing to worry about, and means your home, garden and garage will all be looking spotless just in time for the sunnier and nicer weather.

Having a head start to your spring clean will ensure that you don’t feel too overwhelmed and overworked when March comes around. So grab your bin bags and your favourite cleaning products and let’s declutter together…

PLAN PLAN PLAN

Start off by planning exactly how you want to declutter and organise and be sure to map out exactly which rooms you want to begin with. Maybe you want to start big and go straight for the garage or start small in the spare bedroom. Make sure you set yourself aside enough time to get each room finished, and perhaps even plan several different dates to get as much done as possible. You can even ask family and friends to help out, to get it done much faster.

Having a set plan will make the declutter process so much easier as you can set yourself small targets, making it as achievable as possible to reach your goals. Start by creating goals for each room (no matter how big or small). For example, a goal may be to donate a whole bag of clothing you have not used in a while. When it comes to decluttering, you have to remember that if you have not used something in over a year, you probably won’t use it again.

Start Fresh

This is the perfect time for a fresh start, just in time for Spring, and this means you can bin, donate or recycle any of your items that you do not use anymore to ensure you have enough space as possible. Whether it be old toys, old clothes, books or even sports gear, it is time to let go of anything you do not need. You can create different piles per room and begin to decide where you want to place your clutter.

Ask yourself, when was the last time I used this item? Your answer may determine whether or not it is time to finally let go.

Donate and Recycle

If you’re finding it hard to let go of certain items, why not give them another life and donate or recycle your items. Using charity bags, donating to charity shops or even making a few extra pennies on resale apps such as Vinted or Depop. Decide exactly what items you’re done with and begin to pop them into bags.

Once you get rid of these items, you will notice a significant amount of space in your home or garage to work with. This will make life 10x easier when organising the rest of your items and will even make your home look much tidier.

Grab your Cleaning Products

It’s time to grab your favourite cleaning products as we have a deep clean of the whole house. If you’re in need of some good and useful cleaning products, you can go to your local shop and grab some great items for cheap. Handheld brushes, microfibre towels, polish and a good scrubber may be all you need to get your home looking spotless. It’s important to grab your hoover and mop too, to ensure your floor is as clean as possible. Now you have decluttered your home as much as you can, this step should feel easy as you are starting fresh again.

Our top tips to clean include:

  •  Complete one room at a time.
  •  Pop on your favourite playlist.
  •  Get the family (and kids involved).
  •   Don’t forget to clean the less obvious areas such as the windowsill and skirting boards.
  •   Purchase a nice new candle or air freshener to finish it off.

The Right Shelving

The right shelving or storage solutions can transform your home and make your organisation and declutter process so much easier. Not only can shelving organise your items safely and neatly, but it can also utilise as much vertical space as possible, meaning your home will never look over packed with clutter and items. Our range of storage solutions are versatile, boltless and sturdy, so are the perfect addition to your home.

Whether you’re after sleek and stylish shelving (you can shop wire here), or maybe something sturdy for the garage (take a look at our MDF range here), we have the shelving for you. All of our shelving units hold up to 200kg of weight per shelf, and we offer slimline, wide and extra-deep to choose from.
